Here is an update on an April post about guns on campus. If you want to review that earlier post: http://yourwaytocollege.com/guns-on-campus/
In that post I expressed concern about the increasing number of states liberalizing gun laws and the effect these laws can have on a college campus. I included an article by a college professor in Kansas. The professor suggested the presence of guns in a classroom might make it unsafe to have the type of intellectual debate and honest discussion of sensitive issues that is an important feature of a college class.
An IECA colleague has taken the trouble to create an up-to-date list of gun laws by state. Like some other college admission consultants, I am starting to consider this as I work with students to establish their personal preferences or criteria for choosing a college. You can find the list here.
I would be very interested in hearing how you feel about this developing issue. Please feel free to leave a comment, but let’s keep it respectful regardless of where you may stand on the issue.
